First Local Authorities sign up to be ECB accredited

6ed December 2024

The Enforcement Conduct Board (ECB) is pleased to announce that six in house enforcement teams at local authorities across England and Wales have signed up to the ECB’s Accreditation Scheme.

The authorities are:

  • Anglia Revenues Partnership
  • Durham County Council
  • Flintshire County Council
  • London Borough of Merton
  • London Borough of Southwark
  • Wrexham County Borough Council

The group includes some of the larger and more established in-house teams in the market, as well as some newer ones .

By signing up for the ECB’s independent oversight, the local authorities are making a public commitment to fairness and accountability when it comes to the recovery of public sector debts. They are also committing to meet new, higher standards for enforcement work.

Dywedodd Chris Nichols, Prif Weithredwr yr ECB:

“We are delighted to welcome seven local authorities to our accreditation and oversight.

“The money recovered for councils during enforcement helps to fund vital public services but it can be a difficult and stressful experience for many.

“Members of the public should be able to expect the same high standards and the same level of accountability regardless of whether their debt is being enforced by an in-house team or a private firm.

“These six local authorities are leading the way and we expect others to follow them in demonstrating their own commitment to fairness.”
